GMI Composites, Inc. was established in 1923 as George Morrell Industries. The primary focus was the manufacture of buttons and supplies for the garment industry in Chicago.
During the 1960's emphasis transitioned to emerging composite technologies; an early example of GMI's advanced composite work can be found in the "Bowden Bicycle". The Bowden bicycle is the forerunner of modern composite bikes - currently it is displayed in the Smithsonian Institute and the Museum of Science and Industry.
Mr. Robert Brady and his partners gained control of the company in 1984. Experience in advanced composites, new ideas, and innovative products followed. these initial covers are still performing exceptionally in the field today.
On May 14th 2014, EJ announced thier investment in GMI Composites, Inc. EJ is the leader infrastructure access solutions and offers continued innovation for a variety of unique infrastructure solutions. The combined strengths and resources from both EJ and GMI will provide an even broader range of innovative products for specialized applications.
